My VWCC is a single sign-in portal that gives you access to Blackboard, the Student Information System (SIS), a student gmail account, Library Services, the Virginia Education Wizard, and Compass Test Info. The primary systems you'll be using are Blackboard and the Student Information System. More information about the student gmail account can be found on the Student Email web page.
Blackboard is a tool used by both instructors and students to facilitate both on-line and in-person classes. Tutorials and help using Blackboard can be found by logging into Blackboard and selecting the Help tab. There are a number of very good Blackboard tutorials for both faculty and students found on the eLearning & Instructional Technology webpage.
Instructors use the Faculty Center window within SIS to access instructor-related transactions and to view their teaching schedule. A good resource for step-by-step instructions on using SIS can be found in the faculty section of the MY VWCC Survival Guide. This covers topics such as: viewing your class schedule; accessing your class roster; recording grades; viewing advisee's information; browsing the course catalog; and, viewing a schedule of classes.
Panopto is a program used by the VW faculty and staff to capture their lectures and events for future replay. The video files are actually stored on a dedicated server centrally administered by the Information and Educational Technologies (IET) department in cooperation with the department of Distance Learning and Instructional Technology. More about the use of Panopto including tutorials and guides can be found at https://sites.google.com/site/vwmediageeks/panopto.
