Surveys
The Institutional Effectiveness Office (IEO) is responsible for coordinating student assessment, strategic planning, accreditation activities, program reviews, and institutional research. To support these efforts, a variety of surveys and assessments are administered to our students, graduates, and employees.
internal Surveys
- New Student Survey
Each fall, after the withdrawal deadline for the semester, the New Student Survey is administered to first-time students enrolled in Student Development (SDV) courses. - Alumni Survey
Each summer the Alumni Survey is mailed to the college's previous year’s graduates. The one-year wait period is designed to allow graduates time for a thorough self-assessment of their preparation for employment and/or transfer, and to reflect upon their satisfaction with Virginia Western. Survey results are compiled, reviewed, and disseminated each fall. - Graduate Survey
Each spring the IEO administers the annual Graduate Survey. The survey is distributed to graduates from all degree levels during the college's annual graduation rehearsal. - Employee Survey
An institution-wide survey for all faculty, classified staff, and administration is administered biennially.
External Surveys
- CCSSE (Community College Survey of Student Engagement)
CCSSE provides data and analysis about student engagement in community colleges. The survey questions assess institutional practices and student behaviors that are correlated with student learning and student retention. CCSSE is administered in the spring on a three year cycle.
survey requests
In addition to the regular internal and external surveys indicated above, the IEO also assists other campus units and departments with designing survey instruments, administering surveys, and survey data analysis and interpretation. To request assistance with a survey, please complete an IEO Survey Request form.
