Dennis L. & Hazel Phillips Blalock Memorial Endowed Scholarship Provides tuition, books, and expenses for one academic year. The recipient(s) of this scholarship may not receive total financial aid in excess of estimated annual living expenses. The need for financial assistance and academic achievement plays an important role in the selection process. Applicants must complete the standard financial aid application used at the college. Applicants who are enrolled at Virginia Western or who are transferring from another college or university, must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 and being making satisfactory progress in the pursuit of a degree in a curriculum. Current students must be enrolled in at least 6 semester hours and be in enrolled in a curriculum. Similarly, freshmen are expected to demonstrate a cumulative high school grade point average of 2.5. Dr. George K. Bowers Youth Haven-Sanctuary Annual Scholarship Provides assistance for tuition, books, fees and other related educational expenses to students who demonstrate financial need, and fall in the order listed: 1) Students who finished a prescribed program at Youth Haven or Sanctuary; 2) Students who attended Youth Haven or Sanctuary for a substantial time but did not complete the program; 3) Students who attended counseling sessions with the Roanoke Juvenile Services for a substantial time and are recommended by the Youth Care Administrator of the Roanoke Juvenile Justice Services Division; 4) Students who have been recommended by the courts of Roanoke City, Roanoke County and Salem and the Probation Departments of each locality; and, 5) Youth who are before the court on petition, or youth who are before Juvenile Intake on a complaint in the 23-A Court Service Unit (City of Roanoke) and the 23rd District Court Service Unit (City of Salem & Roanoke County). 2.00 6 credits Any
Cabell Brand Center Gap Scholarship Fund for Student Interns Funds from the Scholarship shall provide assistance for tuition, books, and other related fees to a student enrolled at Virginia Western Community College; in the second year of pursuing an associate of applied science, associate of science or associate of arts; who demonstrates financial need; and is interested in pursuing an internship with a government, quasi-government business or non-profit agency in the Roanoke Valley that supports the Cabell Brand Center's mission of advocating for the causes of the environment, poverty and peace. Bridging the Gap Endowed Scholarship Provides assistance for tuition and other mandatory fees to full-time students with a minimum 2.5 grade point average. Priority is given to black students demonstrating financial need. One scholarship is awarded to an entering first-year student and one to a returning student. Down Syndrome Association of Roanoke Annual Scholarship Funds from the Scholarship shall provide assistance to students with cognitive disabilities who are enrolled in a curriculum. Priority is given to students with Down Syndrome; if none apply, then preference is given to those with cognitive disabilities, and finally to those with any disability. Educational Foundation Textbook Scholarship The Educational Foundation Textbook Scholarship will provide textbook payment assistance at the campus bookstore. Applicant must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits in an established program of study at Virginia Western. Encore Capital Group Community College Scholarship Provides assistance for tuition, fees and textbooks or any other items included in the cost of attending the Institution and must be used within one academic year. The Scholarship shall be open to all needs-based applicants regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, citizenship, disability, age or veteran's status. Students must maintain a 2.0 grade point average and six credit hours per semester. Friendship Retirement Community Registered Nursing Scholarship Provides full tuition, books and other related fees to students entering the second, third, and fourth semester of the Registered Nursing Program. Students must be enrolled and in good standing in the 10 credit/semester Registered Nursing Program. Students must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average. The recipient will receive the scholarship in each of the remaining semesters of the Registered Nursing Program if he/she maintains the criteria set by this scholarship. ITT Exelis Annual Scholarship Provides assistance for tuition, books, and other related fees to a full-time second year student with a minimum 3.0 GPA pursuing an electronics field of study. Applicants must have resided in the greater Roanoke Valley for more than two years. Priority is given to students demonstrating financial need. Priority is given in the following order: to workers or former workers of Odasz farms or members of The Church of Transfiguration. Susan Owen Memorial Annual Scholarship (SPRING ONLY) Provides assistance for fees associated with the National Council of the State Board of Nursing exam and background check expenses related to the exam. Students must have a minimum 2.75 grade point average. Priority is given to students demonstrating financial need. Dr. Elizabeth W. Payne Endowed Scholarship Provides assistance for books and technical support expenses to a female student enrolled full-time in the Business Sciences Division with a concentration in one or more of the following: Accounting, AST, Business Administration, Clerical Studies, Legal Assisting, Management, Medical Transcription, Microcomputer Systems Technology, Office Technology, and Office Assistant. Priority is given to students demonstrating financial need. Pearman Annual Scholarship Provides assistance for tuition, books, and other related expenses to second-year students enrolled in the Communication Design Program on a full or part-time basis. Heavy emphasis will be placed on the merit of the student’s portfolio. To be eligible, students must have completed 24 credit hours and have a letter of recommendation from an Administration of Justice faculty member. Applicants must possess a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA, and have graduated from either William Fleming or Franklin County High School. Al Pollard Memorial Scholarship for the Culinary Arts Provides assistance to first year and continuing students for tuition, books, and other related expenses, allowing qualified applicants to be eligible for funding in their first year, and to apply for up to two years of additional funding. No minimum GPA is required for new students to apply for the scholarship. Recipients must maintain a 2.5 GPA and enrollment in nine (9) credits or more per semester in the Culinary Arts Associate Degree Program to be eligible for the scholarship in future semesters. In the section provided on the scholarship application itself, students must detail their commitment to the culinary arts profession, commenting on any previous culinary arts experience and their future goals in the field. Richfield Living Annual Nursing Scholarship Provides assistance for tuition, books and fees for a first or second year student enrolled in and in good standing with the Licensed Practical or Registered Nursing program at Virginia Western. Will fund up to 15 credit hours of course work during the fall and spring semesters and will fund the respective cost of programmatic textbooks during the same fall and spring semesters. Recipients of this scholarship must meet with a representative of Richfield Living to mutually agree upon a working connection with Richfield Living as a final requirement of receiving the scholarship. John Morris Roslyn Educational Scholarship Provides assistance for tuition, books and other related expenses for students in the programs of Math, Chemistry, Physics, Biology or Engineering (concentrating on Robotics or Mini Baja program) who meet the following criteria:

-- The recipient must be a US citizen and a resident of Virginia for at least one year;
-- The recipient must demonstrate financial need with preference given to those who have overcome adversity or shown tenacity in bettering themselves;
-- The recipient must be enrolled in a minimum of 9 credit hours and maintain a 3.0 grade point average;
-- The recipient will continue to receive the scholarship in the fall and spring semesters for up to three years if he/she maintains the criteria set by this scholarship;
-- Recipients will receive additional funds per year if GPA is 3.5 or higher for the year, paid after each year is completed.

Shenandoah Life Annual Diversity Scholarship Provides assistance for tuition and other related fees to students enrolled in the Business Science Division (Business Administration Associate Degree) or Humanities Division (Liberal Arts Associate Degree). Students must maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average or higher. Heavy emphasis will be place on diverse students with cultural experiences. First priority is given to students who are bi-lingual and fluently speak Spanish. Second priority will be given to minority students.
