Division Specific Grants 2008

The Virginia Western Community College Educational Foundation, Inc., is an independent not-for-profit foundation dedicated to enhancing community awareness of the College; securing private and public funds for student scholarships, faculty development, and capital projects; and providing prudent fiscal management of monies and properties submitted to the Foundation. In keeping with the mission of the Educational Foundation, one aspect of the Foundation’s operations is to administer and fund the Division Specific Grant.

Purpose

Programs supporting faculty “team building” or programs that enhance teaching in a specific discipline are important to the academic environment at Virginia Western Community College. The Foundation has instituted the Division Specific Grant to encourage faculty development. One grant of $500 will be awarded annually to each academic division and the division of student services to support a division retreat, workshop, or special speaker for the Spring or Fall, 2008 semesters. Funding will be available after January 1, 2008 and must be used by December 12, 2008.

How to Apply

The Dean of the Division must email the Division request (only one request per Division) to Kay Strickland (kstrickland@vw.vccs.edu) at least one month prior to the activity and include the following information:

• 1. The Name of the Division and the names of the faculty in the Division
  
  
• 2. A description of your Division’s request with a brief explanation of how the request supports team building or encourages faculty development
  
  
• 3. A total budget for this request detailing the Foundation’s financial responsibility as well as any additional costs and how they will be funded
  
  
• 4. The contact person from your Division if it is someone other than the Dean

What Happens Next

The Foundation will contact the Dean after the request has been approved by the Foundation’s Scholarship and Grants Committee. Additional clarification may be requested by the committee. PLEASE NOTE - To receive funding the Division Dean must submit a requisition order with receipts not to exceed $500 to the Foundation for payment.
