Important Financial Aid Information - Summer Semester 2014

May 19 – Classes Begin

Please review this information regarding Summer Financial Aid Procedures at Virginia Western Community College.

The 2014 Summer Financial Aid Review Form is available to students who are seeking State Aid assistance due to limited or no Pell Grant eligibility during the summer 2014 semester.

Students that fall into the categories below are most likely to be eligible for state funds in the summer. These are general categories that do not guarantee State Aid eligibility. There may be students outside of these categories that may still demonstrate eligibility. To determine your eligibility a form must be submitted to ensure that any funds are being designated to students that are planning to attend in summer 2014.

  1. A student who used his/her Pell Grant award in Fall 2013 and Spring 2014.
  2. A student who was not eligible for a Pell Grant during Fall 2013 and Spring 2014, but received State Aid in either semester.
  3. A student that was Pell Grant eligible in Fall '13 and Spring '14 but was not full time both semesters.
  4. A new student that is beginning in the summer that has no or low Pell grant eligibility.

Additional Criteria/Information:

  • State aid is awarded to students with ‘In State’ residency status.
  • Virginia Commonwealth Grant (COMA) funds require that students are enrolled and attend a minimum of 6 credits.
  • Amounts awarded will be designated to assist with covering tuition and fees for six credits of enrollment.
  • Books, supplies and additional courses will need to be paid by the student out-of-pocket or using other sources.
  • If you have been awarded (COMA) funds and you do not enroll in 6 or more credits your award will be cancelled and you may have to pay out of pocket for any remaining credits.
  • There are limited state funds available to students that will be attending less than 6 credits; so, it is important that you indicate if you plan on enrolling in less than 6 credits on the 2014 Summer Financial Aid Review Form (PDF).
