Experiential Learning/Job Placement Coordinator

Reports to: Dean of Student Services (FA099)
This position in working with the Adult Career Coaches is responsible for providing connections for adult students enrolled in occupational/technical programs to experiential learning opportunities such as cooperative education and internships that may be available through the college or other partnering entities in the region's workforce development system. The coordinator will build relationships with Human Resources departments and other individuals responsible for hiring so as to effectively connect participants to available jobs.
Coordinates all career counseling and placement services activities. Responsible for providing full-time placement and internships for students; establishes and maintains an outreach to businesses and govenrmental agencies to promote career options by visiting potential employers to place graduates and promote programs; maintains collaborative relationships with employers to develop a positive image for the Career Center. Assess employers' need and communicates needs to academic deans. Analyzes and compiles information on occupation technical degree graduates for the purpose of placing future graduates; networking opportunities; options for internships and providing feedback to divisions on academic preparation of graduates. Disseminates information on graduates to include name of employers, occupation titles, job requirements and salary ranges to students, academic divisions and student services to promote programs and careers to future and current enrolled students. Meet with area employers to understand specific needs of area employers for high demand occupations. Work with Virginia Employment Commissions to share knowledge of labor market trends and opportunities. Build networks and establish effective working partnerships.
Responsible for working individually and in small groups with referred participants to provide services for job preparation and placement including: guidance in the job search process, employability skills coaching, connections with relevant employers, and assistance with preparing for applications, resumes, interviews, and other steps in the job placement process. Will conduct workshops to prepare clients for the worksite and group sessions to reflect on initial workplace experiences. The coordinator will be expected to build relationships with Human Resources departments or other individuals responsible for hiring so as to effectively connect participants to available jobs. Assists students with posting resumes on web site by demonstrating usage and controlling content of material. Works in coordination with Adult Career Coaches to assist targeted population in gaining experiential learning opportunities.
