The Coordinator of Distance Learning and Instructional Technology is responsible for coordinating the distance-learning program and for assisting faculty and students in the effective use of technology for teaching and learning.
Consults with faculty in the development of online courses. Advises faculty in the choice of appropriate software development tools, insuring that selected software meets the technical requirements for college Web-based courses. Evaluates faculty-developed courses and provides recommendations for improvements or changes in design as needed. Assists faculty in revising and updating existing Web-based courses, including converting existing courses to new application platforms.
Consults with college faculty in the design and development of instructional applications that are pedagogically sound and that observe effective graphic design principles. Advises faculty in the selection of effective multimedia development tools and multimedia software, as well as in the selection and use of appropriate hardware, insuring compatibility with existing hardware and software. Reviews and arranges for tests of software applications for functionality, compatibility, and support requirements. Makes recommendations on hardware and software to the faculty, administration, and members of the TLTR to support instructional needs. Works with faculty revising and updating traditional courses to introduce or expand the use of relevant instructional technology. Reviews faculty-developed multimedia projects and provides feedback as needed.
Acts as system administrator for Blackboard and maintains support system for users of Blackboard and Webmail. Establishes positive professional relationships with students and offers tutorial sessions when needed. Supervises clerical support staff in the overall work activities of the office.
|15%||Administers, manages and evaluates the distance learning program. Develops and monitors the college’s Quality Assurance Plan for Asynchronous Courses. Coordinates distance learning orientation sessions. Participates on VCCS distance learning committees and in VDEN conference calls. Facilitates the process of DL course development grants. Completes various reports and information requests relating to distance learning for SACS, VCCS, SCHEV, etc. Assists faculty in scheduling the delivery of courses via the VCCS compressed video network.|
|5%||Surveys faculty to identify their design and training needs. Develops and conducts workshops and other professional development opportunities for faculty in general principles of instructional design, basic principles of graphic design, specific software applications, and the effective integration of technology into instruction. Workshops follow a logical progression or sequence to accommodate faculty training needs from beginning to advanced levels and are scheduled to support the maximum number of faculty, staff, and students.|
|5%||Develops and maintains an Instructional Technology/Distance Learning web site containing relevant information, schedules, and links to relevant resources for VWCC faculty. Serves as chair of TLTR.|
