This position serves the college’s Tech Prep program, a developmental system that provides students with planned programs of study that incorporate academic and career-related courses articulated between the secondary, postsecondary and university levels leading to a diploma, degree, or two-year apprenticeship certificate.
The position employs organizational and marketing skills in the authoring, marketing, and managing of the VCCS Tech Prep grant for the Virginia Western consortium that includes the counties of Craig, Roanoke, the southern portion of Botetourt and northern portion of Franklin counties, and Roanoke and Salem cities.
Plans, manages, markets, and provides leadership and supervision of the Tech Prep program to include grant budget management resulting in increased career pathway opportunities for area students; directs the grant writing and procurement activities of the consortium and maintains specific information for credits earned in each career pathway. Schedules and prepares numerous presentations during the year highlighting the Tech Prep program throughout the region. Accumulates employers’ needs data and communicates needs to secondary and post-secondary partners for future program initiatives. Analyzes compiled information on occupational-technical degree graduates for communication to secondary and post-secondary partners. Pursues networking opportunities and options for future collaboration providing feedback to all partners. Maintains a collaborative relationship with faculty and program heads on the secondary and post-secondary levels to develop a positive image for Tech Prep and Career Pathways. Updates material on web site ensuring accuracy of material and providing assistance for employers and students in its usage.
Establishes and cultivates an outreach effort and a close working relationship with area businesses, industry, VWCC Workforce Development and secondary schools to implement and promote the Career Pathway vision and mission of Tech Prep. Establishes and maintains a networking relationship with parents, community, and business and industry to promote the mission of the program and to elicit needed support. Researches and develops possible registered apprenticeship programs that can be articulated through the Tech Prep program. Develops possible work-based or community-based career activities and learning opportunities for Tech Prep students and performs other duties set forth in the Tech Prep grant.
|15%||Implements the new Career Pathways program, develops and promotes a Career Coach program for the secondary schools, strengthens existing programs, and works closely with business and industry to identify and analyze workforce needs. Promotes continuous development of the Tech Prep Dual Enrollment program for the Division of Business, Engineering, and Technology at Virginia Western Community College, including developing procedures to evaluate progress toward achieving objectives as set forth in the Tech Prep grant.|
|10%||Chairs the Roanoke Area Tech Prep Consortium Steering Committee, consisting of business and industry representatives, secondary school professionals and post secondary administrators. Develops a new charter, calls meetings, creates the agenda, holds meetings, creates and disseminates meeting minutes. Follows through on decisions made at the meeting.|
|10%||Manages the articulation agreements with the secondary school systems ensuring that secondary school students receive college credit for articulated classes taken at the high school level once enrolled in programs at VWCC not designed for transfer to 4-year institutions. Promotes the continued development of articulation agreements directed at skills training and certifications for the workplace. Manages the creation and maintenance of a student records database of students receiving articulated course credits to ensure proper record keeping as required by the Tech Prep grant. Plans and coordinates professional development opportunities that relate to Tech Prep to improve instruction in core academic and/or career and technical areas for secondary and post-secondary educators.|
|10%||Develops programs to assist in addressing issues related to student access and enrollment in sponsored programs to include retention as well as recruitment activities and available services.|
