Community Support

Q: Why was the program created?

A: The objectives of the Community College Access Program are to:

  • To raise public awareness that a post high school education is essential to earning a living wage.
  • To overcome the real and perceived financial barriers to a college education and raise public awareness that college education is accessible and affordable.
  • To enable qualifying high school students continue their education in preparation for good, well-paying jobs within the region and/or transfer to a 4 year college.
  • To provide an educated and well-qualified workforce for the Roanoke Valley.
  • To provide an incentive for young people to remain in the area.

Without the support of generous organizations, businesses, and individuals the Community College Access Program (CCAP) cannot exist.

Q: How is CCAP funded?

A: The program is a private/public partnership formed to support a community college access program for region and now includes Roanoke City, Salem City, and Franklin County.  The program is funded by federal financial aid, public funds, and private funds. CCAP seeks partnerships with other foundations, corporations, businesses, and individuals to sustain the program.
