What is the Roanoke Community College Access Program (Roanoke CCAP)?

The Roanoke Community College Access Program (RCCAP) makes college available tuition-free to 2010 graduates of Patrick Henry or William Fleming High School. The program covers the cost of tuition for two years or up to 72 credit hours at Virginia Western Community College, whichever comes first. Please note:
RCCAP supports as many students as possible based on student need and funds available.

What are the eligibility requirements?

To be eligible for consideration for the Roanoke Community College Access Program (RCCAP), an individual must:

  • Graduate as a member of the 2010 class with a Patrick Henry or William Fleming High School diploma and have attended Patrick Henry or William Fleming High School for at least his/her junior and senior years, with a minimum cumulative 2.0 grade point average (GPA).
  • Apply for admission to Virginia Western Community College (VWCC) and meet all admission guidelines. Must be a Virginia in-state resident.
  • Take the VWCC placement tests (mandatory for ALL applicants - no exceptions), and demonstrate the ability to benefit from higher education by achieving satisfactory scores.
  • Provide proof of residency in the City of Roanoke for the period beginning August 2008 through February 2010.
  • Have a completed VWCC financial aid file, meeting all RCCAP deadlines.
  • Meet the March 31 deadline for submission of application materials.
  • Enroll at VWCC in a degree/diploma/certificate program that meets the federal financial aid requirements in the fall semester immediately following his/her 2010 Patrick Henry or William Fleming High School graduation.

PLEASE NOTE: Students are required to meet several performance/accountability requirements in order to remain in the program after acceptance including, but not limited to, full-time continuous enrollment at Virginia Western, maintaining a 2.0 GPA, enrollment in a Student Development Course, and participation in a community service project.

The RCCAP Application will be available beginning January 1, 2010 and must be received
by March 31, 2010.

Please note:
Students not enrolling as degree or certificate-seeking students in the fall semester immediately following their Patrick Henry or William Fleming High School graduation and/or not meeting all program deadlines will not be eligible for the program in future semesters.
