Virginia Western Community College hosts an annual Technology Summit and Career Fair on the second Friday in October. The Technology Summit is a joint effort between Virginia Western's Hall Associates Career Center and the Division of Business, Engineering, and Technology in conjunction with employers within the greater Roanoke Valley. The Roanoke Valley, like many other localities around the country, is suffering from a shortfall of well-trained and skilled technical employees. Virginia Western has identified numerous companies eager to partner in providing innovative opportunities to address this shortage of engineering and technical employees.
The Technology Summit and Career Exploration takes place during the morning and is specifically designed to bring together employers and high school juniors and seniors who have an interest in pursuing an engineering or technology degree. The afternoon involves a career fair geared towards Virginia Western students seeking job opportunities or to gather essential career related information from those working in the industry. This presents exciting and unique opportunities for students who want to pursue a technical career with a company in the Roanoke Valley and surrounding areas. Demonstrations and hands-on workshops will be offered in robotics, rapid prototyping, GIS/GPS, CNC, PLC's, welding, HVAC, hydraulics, Information Technology, Environmental and Health Science Technology, mini-baja car and much more. Exhibitors will provide the students with the opportunity to collect information from their companies and communicate with potential employers. This one day event will showcase an array of opportunities that await students as they decide on their future career paths.
The afternoon Career Fair will provide opportunity for employers to meet with Virginia Western students who are working toward completion of a degree or certificate in one of our technical studies programs. With over 25 associate's and certificate programs in areas including engineering, IT, CAD, mechatronics, GIS and more, this Fair will allow students to learn more about current and future openings with area industry and will give employers an opportunity to network with possible future employees. The Career Fair will be a great opportunity for both employers currently seeking to add to their workforce, and for those simply wishing to network with prospective future employees so a cache of resumes can be obtained.
