The eLIT department and the VWCC Plus 50 Initiative are co-sponsoring the 2014 Instructional Technology Mini-Conference, a free one-day conference and professional development opportunity for all Virginia Western faculty and staff. The Mini-Conference will include a full day of sessions delivered by outside professionals on a broad range of topics: Blackboard Collaborate and Blackboard IM, Flipping the Classroom, Atomic Learning, Blackboard Learn Roadmap, and Instructional Technology for Adult Learners (Plus 50 learners). VWCC faculty who complete the full-day mini-conference will receive a certificate equivalent to the completion of two-weeks of TOTAL workshop credits. These credits will contribute to satisfying the “Professional Development Objectives for Faculty Teaching Hybrid and Online Courses” as outlined in the new Faculty Evaluation and Development Plan (see page 9).
For faculty anticipated to teach only on-campus courses, these credits will also be considered “appropriate training in teaching with technology” that will contribute to meeting professional development objectives in the teaching domain of the new Faculty Evaluation and Development Plan (see page 9).

No agenda, no to-do list, just wind down on a Friday night. The conversation and fun is free, everything else you have to pay for.
This event is the brain child of the Health-Wellness-FUN Committee of the Staff Senate but everyone is welcome to attend.
As most of you are aware, the Virginia General Assembly was late adopting a state budget. The college only became aware of our funding for next fiscal year on June 23, 2014. As a result of the delay, the college’s internal budget process is similarly delayed. To carve out more time for our internal college process, 25% of the base operating budgets (same as last year’s allocation) will be loaded this week to allow spending in 2014 -2015 to continue; however, the college’s budget for the 2014 – 2015 budget year will not be finalized until on or around August 1st. At that time, you will receive information about the pending operating and personnel requests and your new budget for 2014 -2015.
