Next Staff Senate Meeting – May 16, 2014 – Elections to be Held

The next Staff Senate Meeting has been scheduled for May 16, 2014, 10:00am – 11:00am in the Natural Science Center, N101.

Elections will be held for the co-chair position currently held by Tara Nepper and the recorder position held by Nicole Bell. Nominations can be sent via e-mail to Marla Whiteside, Tara Nepper or Nicole Bell.

At least one person from each office/department is asked to attend but all full- and part-time classified staff are eligible and encouraged to attend Staff Senate. Staff Senate is supported by the college’s administration.

Maintenance Connection (FMS Work Order System) Upgrade

Maintenance Connection, the FMS work order system, will be upgraded Friday, May 16 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. There may be intermittent interruptions in accessibility to Maintenance Connection during the upgrade but it will be minimal. Should you have trouble submitting a work order during this time, please try after 1 p.m. once the upgrade is complete.

If you have a saved Favorite/Bookmark to the current FMS/Maintenance Connection Work Order System, you will need to refresh it after 1 p.m. Friday.  Click on the Maintenance Connection link on the right hand side of this page after 1 p.m. Friday, May 16 to update your Favorite/Bookmark.

Updating Personal Information in PeopleSoft HRMS

All Full-Time {Staff & Faculty} and Part-Time {student, non-student, FWS, adjunct} employees:

Did you know you can maintain your personal information (address, phone numbers, emergency contacts, etc.) in PeopleSoft?

Generic navigation steps are as follows:  Login to PeopleSoft > Self-Service > Personal Information > Personal Information Summary

Visit this link on VWConnect and then select the appropriate "HRMS Checklist" based on your primary employment status (full-time or part-time) to view specific steps for updating your personal information.

Please take a few moments and follow the checklist to ensure your personal information is accurately reflected in PeopleSoft.

Do you have information to share with the college community? Post your notices to the Daily Bulletin!

Postings should be college related with the exception of information included in Friday's bulletin posts, "Community Events" and "For Sale/Buy/Trade/Free." (see note below about different posting instructions for these posts)

Your postings could include:

  • Professional development opportunities
  • New employees to your office (even if they aren't new to the college)
  • Personal professional development milestones (publication of a book, journal articles, awards, etc)
  • Congratulations to an individual or team for completion of a project, task or event
  • Business process updates or changes
  • Birth or death announcements
  • Retirement announcements
  • And much more!

A few things to remember:

  • Postings should be short and to the point (think about the basics that would get your attention)
  • No graphics or tables (the bulletins are emails; graphics and tables take up server space)
  • A new posting must be submitted for each day you want the post to run (the program doesn't allow multiple date selection so three posting dates means you submit the post new three times - don't worry, you can copy and paste)
  • If a posting is not for the next day, include the run date at the top of the message (ex. Please run on 11/30)
  • Postings must be submitted no later than 4 p.m. the day prior (postings submitted on Friday will run on Monday)
  • No bulletins are sent on Saturday, Sunday or any day the college is closed
  • Send Community Event or For Buy/Sale/Trade/Free postings to publicrelations@virginiawestern.edu

CCAP Diploma Campaign

2014 Diploma Campaign

During the month of May, Kroger and Stop In Food Stores are partnering with Virginia Western Community College to support the Community College Access Program (CCAP) and make college possible for local high school graduates.

Stop by any local Kroger or Stop In Food Stores location and donate $1 or $5 when you check out. All proceeds directly benefit CCAP and help bolster the economic base of the Roanoke Valley.

Requirements: Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0, high school graduate or have a GED, and be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credits at Virginia Western in Fall 2014.

The Virginia Western Educational Foundation has over $140,000 in scholarship funds available for academic excellence or financial need to help you reach your educational goals.  You don’t have to receive federal financial aid to qualify for financial need scholarships.
