Virginia Western supports its faculty in attending the Virginia Master Teacher Seminar. The seminar is held each summer on the campus of Hampden-Sydney College and is sponsored by Southside Virginia Community College. This year, the Seminar will take place July 6 -10, 2014. Professional development activities include on-campus training, VCCS opportunities for conferences and grants (http://www.vccs.edu/careers/office-of-professional-development/), non-VCCS travel and training, and educational aid for courses offered both on campus and at other institutions.
The Professional Development Committee has worked hard to improve the professional development funding process for 2014-15. Changes to the process include simplification of the application, inclusion of an option for attending more costly national conferences, and an automated submission process. Professional development funding is available to all full-time faculty and staff through this application process.

In accordance with Department of Human Resources Management Policy 4.35 “Leave Sharing”, Virginia Western Community College is seeking employees who wish to donate their annual leave. Annual leave donations received will be applied to supplement the pay of a fellow employee who has exhausted all of their leave during their absence to care for a family member who has a serious health care condition. Annual leave donations will cease when the employee returns to work; or, if still absent from work, Family Medical Leave has been exhausted or no longer qualifying.
- Annual leave donations are required by policy to be in minimum increments of 8 hours.
- Only annual leave may be donated.
- Leave that has been processed may not be reclaimed.
