The VRS Hybrid Retirement Plan combines the features of a defined benefit plan and a defined contribution plan. VRS members may opt-in to the plan during the open enrollment period which ends April 30, 2014.
Who is Eligible to Opt-In?
At Virginia Western, only current VRS members are eligible to opt-in. Optional Retirement Plan (ORP) and Virginia Law Officers' Retirement System (VaLORS) are not eligible to opt-in.
Is The Plan Right For You?
You can answer this question by attending one of the following informational sessions all located in the Human Resources Training Room in Fishburn Hall:
Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 10 a.m.
Thursday, April 17, 2014 at 2:30 p.m.
Current VRS members are not affected by the new plan; however, you do have the opportunity to opt-in. If you do not wish to opt-in, you do not need to do anything!
If you are considering opting into the plan, you are strongly encouraged to attend one of these informational sessions.
Your decision to enroll in the Hybrid is irrevocable.

Virginia Western Community College is committed to the educational goals of our military-related population. In an effort to respond to the guidelines provided by the State Council for Higher Education of Virginia (SCHEV) in regards to course registration, we are pleased to announce that beginning Friday, April 11th an opportunity for priority registration for the fall 2014 semester will be offered to our returning military-related students. This population includes active duty and veteran military students as well as spouses and dependents. Students must be enrolled during the spring 2014 semester to qualify for this opportunity. Students with administrative holds on their records are not eligible for self-registration. Administrative holds may be viewed using My VWCC/Student Center. Eligible students were notified via email to their Virginia Western email account on Monday, March 23rd. Students that do not receive an email notification, but feel that they should qualify for priority enrollment should be referred to the Admissions Office.
The College’s Clean Air Policy currently prohibits smoking in all areas of the south campus except in the designated shelter located adjacent to Humanities in Lot 1E. The South Campus is described as any area between Colonial Avenue and State Route 220. This includes Webber, Chapman, Craig and Duncan Halls the Natural Science Center, Arboretum, Greenhouse, Humanities Building and the Thomas Center. This also includes all parking lots, sidewalks and common areas.
Smoking on the North side of campus is limited to outside areas that are at least 25 feet from any building entrance.
The discarding of cigarette butts on the ground as litter on campus may subject the person to a criminal fine for littering.

Parking lot 5 (Fishburn Hall) has recently been remarked with new signage. The lot has been primarily designated for "Permit Parking Only." This means that in order to park in these "Permit Parking” spaces the driver is required to have a temporary parking pass placed visibly on the dashboard. These passes can be found on VW Connect and are only to be issued for persons' visiting the campus for short term business. College issued Faculty/Staff hang-tags are not considered permits for these parking spaces and will be subject to parking enforcement in the future.
The remaining spaces in lot 5 are designated as follows; Handicapped (4), Visitor (3), Foundation Division (1), Police/Maintenance (1), Stork (1), and 15 Minute Parking (1). Once again Faculty/Staff Hang-tags are not considered permits for these parking spaces and will be subject to parking enforcement in the future.
Parking lot 6 is reserved during administrative office hours and may only be utilized by designated administrative permit holders, police/maintenance vehicles and handicapped placarded vehicles. Violators will be subject to parking enforcement in the future. Lot 5 and 6 parking ticket appeals for voidance will be notably restricted.
Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.
