You may have noticed the new "plants" in the community garden. The Armed Forces Student Association has once again taken over the garden to honor fallen soldiers. Each of those flags represents a soldier that has died in service to our country since 9/11. If you watched any of the Roll Call on Monday, each of those names corresponds to a flag in the garden.
This year, donations are being accepted as long as the flags remain in the ground. $1 corresponds to 1 flag. Proceeds will be split between the Virginia Western Veterans Assistance Fund and Mutts with a Mission.
The Veterans Assistance Fund is a new fund being managed by the Foundation to assist our student vets in times of need.
Mutts with a Mission is a non-profit organization that rescues dogs from shelters and trains them as service animals to wounded veterans. They are based in Charlottesville, but Roanoke is within their service area. A donation to this incredible cause will be made in Teddy's name as a way to honor his memory.
Donation stations will be placed around campus in the next few days. Thank you for all your support.
