Industrial Maintenance Technician (17 Weeks, 20 Hours/Week, 340 Total Hours) This VWCC Quick Connect Intensive Industrial Maintenance Technician's program introduces students to the knowledge and skills they will need to work in manufacturing or industrial plants. Entry level industrial maintenance technicians call upon a variety of skills in electronics, mechanical and digital systems to repair and maintain large and complex machines. Through on-line, classroom and hands-on training, students will build skills in an array of mechanical, electrical and technological areas including welding and maintenance, mechanical systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and electrical control systems. Students will use a variety of resources including Tooling University from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. VWCC Quick Connect: Welding & AWS Certification http://virginiawestern.edu/workforce/programs/welding.php
Students will learn GMAW and FCAW welding methods. Credentials from this class include an OSHA 10 Certification, a Commonwealth of Virginia Career Readiness Certificate (CRC), and an American Welding Society (AWS) Certification. The course meets over 64 hours. Dates, times, and frequency will be determined each semester. At the end of the course, students will weld inspection coupons which will be forwarded to a Certified Welding Instructor (CWI). Successful students will receive an AWS certification. An Ophthalmic Assistant is a person who works with an Ophthalmologist or Optometrist to provide patient care by performing many different eye related clinical functions. Their Work provides the ophthalmologist/optometrist with important information to help diagnose and treat patients.

This training will provide the technical information in the classroom to secure a job as an Ophthalmic Assistant.  Some basic “hands on” skills with equipment will also be covered. This class focuses on the information/academics needed to work in the field.  There are many pieces of equipment used on the job you will learn about but will not do “the hands on” in using the equipment until you are employed. This class will give you a distinct advantage on others applying for the job of Ophthalmic Assistant.  You will know about the job, the medical aspects of the job, and the demands of the job that an applicant without the training will not have.

Project Management Professional Certification (BUSC - 58663 AC1 and 58672 AC2) Thursday 1/9/13 - 3/13/13 (6:00pm-9:30pm) or Thursday 3/27/13 - 5/29/13
This 10-week course is designed to prepare students for the PMP Certification exam. It reviews the concepts of Project Management as defined by the Project Management Institute, the accrediting body for project management. It will also fulfill the requirement for 35 contact hours of project management education for individuals seeking PMP certification (visit http://www.pmi.org/CareerDevelopment/Pages/Obtaining-Credential.aspx for more information). Intro to Basics, Families Creation and Advanced Revit Techniques (CADD 2153 AC1 and AC2) Thursday (6:00pm-9:45pm) 1/16/14 - 3/6/14  or Thursday 3/20/14 - 5/8/14 This (8) week non-credit course will expand on the knowledge of the foundations of Revit and further develop integrated floor plans, coordinate systems, drawing families, massing, extruding, dimensions, creation and editing. ** Updating Your Mailing Address **

Attention ALL employees (Full and Part-Time, Faculty and Staff):

To make sure Payroll has your current mailing address for W2 purposes, please review and update your address no later than December 13th, 2013.   

To Edit an address:

  • Log-in to PeopleSoft.
  • Click "Main Menu".
  • Click "Self Service".
  • Click "Personal Information Summary".
  • Click "Change Home/Mailing Addresses" button.
  • Then click the “Edit” button to the right of the address which needs to be updated.
  • Fill out the form with your new mailing address information.  You must list the same address in the HOME and MAILING address variables.  Please ensure you are using proper USPS format and abbreviations.  The Postal code MUST be in the nine-digit format. Use this link to find your code: http://zip4.usps.com.
  • Residence/Juris Code should be the city or county location of the corresponding address.
  • List effective date of address change next to “On this date”.
  • Click “Save”.
  • Click “Ok”.
  • Click “Return to Personal Information” when verification of Address is complete.

Additionally, you must submit all address changes to the Human Resources Department. This can be done by emailing Heidi McClintic (hmcclintic@virginiawestern.edu) from your VWCC Employee Email Account (or you can use your VCCS Student Email account if you do not have an Employee Email Account with our college) with the request.

You should also take a few minutes to update all of your personal information.  The Job Aid in on VWConnect (has to be accessed while on campus or thru virtual network).  Go to HUMAN RESOURCES > PEOPLESOFT HRMS > Select the appropriate Checklist based on your position status (full-time or part-time).
