What is desktop virtualization? Desktop virtualization is the latest technology in which all software programs, applications, processes and data are stored on a server (in M270 here at VWCC) and run centrally. Thin Clients are being installed throughout the campus which will serve as the interface between the user and actual network located in M270 where all software and data is stored.
Desktop virtualization benefits the college with energy savings and more efficient management of software and other resources.
For the user, desktop virtualization allows access to the college’s network remotely as long as you are in a location with adequate Internet service. Just log into your “virtual machine” and have access to all your VWCC work files.
If you do not currently have a virtual desktop (AKA remote access), please contact the Help Desk and request one be created for you.
