News from Information and Educational Technologies (IET)

IET will be providing important technology related information which will effect all users of the VWCC network via the Daily Bulletin over the next several weeks. Please take a minute to read this information and contact the Help Desk if you have any questions.

Information Item 1: Campus Wide Windows 7 Upgrade in Progress

In order for VWCC to be in compliance with the Chancellor’s Expectations, IET has migrated all virtual machines and laptops to the Windows 7 operating system.

IET will be completing the migration of workstations (approximately 300) which have Windows XP as the operating system to Windows 7 over the next several months. The college is migrating towards a computer platform which will be a combination of thin clients and HP 8000 systems all using the Windows 7 operating system. As new employees are hired, they will be given Windows 7 and departments/divisions can request Windows 7 by calling the Help Desk. A ticket will be entered and these will be handled on a case by case basis contingent of staffing, complexity of software requirements and IET workload.

A Windows 7 tutorial is available at: http://www.virginiawestern.edu/iet/helpdesk/training/windows7/window7.php  !
