VCCS Paul Lee Professional Development Grant Program

The VCCS offers two types of professional development grants.

The first is the Professional Development Grant, with a maximum award of $2,500.
The second is the Workshop Mini-Grant with a maximum award of $1,500.

Note, the application deadline is  February 15, 2012 for summer projects.

New Exhibit in the Art Gallery opens January 7

The Southwest Virginia Art Education Exhibition will open on Monday, January 7 and run until March 1, 2013. The opening reception is Thursday, January 10 from 5-7 PM. Everyone is welcome to attend the opening and stop in and see the show! If you would like information about the Art Gallery, please contact Prof. Sue Thomas at 857-6070 or sthomas@virginiawestern.edu. The Art Gallery is located in the Humanities building, H212.

HOW TO USE BLACKBOARD IN YOUR COURSES
TIPS AND TRICKS!

WHEN:  Wednesday, January 9; 1:00 p.m.

Blackboard is a Web-based course-management system designed to allow students and faculty to participate in online classes or use online materials and activities to complement face–to-face teaching. This workshop will present information about how to use Blackboard to access course features, such as course syllabus, customizing your entry page, downloading course documents, participating in discussion boards, using the new assignment submitting feature and taking online quizzes.

PLEASE ENCOURAGE YOUR STUDENTS TO ATTEND THESE VERY USEFUL HOT TOPIC SESSIONS. If you would like to offer extra credit to students, they will be given an “extra credit ticket” as verification of their attendance to bring back to class.

Spring 2013 College Committee Schedule Now Available

The Spring 2013 College Committee Schedule is now available.

The schedule and committee memberships are available on the Governance page on VWConnect in the 2012-13 Documents folder.

Information and Educational Technologies (IET) has also created a calendar file which can be imported directly to your Outlook calendar.

The Outlook calendar update file has been added to H:\Calendar Date Files with the name of "VWCC Spring 2013 Committee Meeting Schedule".

Follow the directions located at http://virginiawestern.edu/iet/helpdesk/howtos.php under Import a Calendar Date File into Outlook to learn how to update your primary Outlook calendar with these files. You will notice that there are other calendar files you may import as well such as the timesheet due dates. Please do not import a calendar update file that you have already imported before.
