To all VWCC Employees:
The Office of Fleet Management has announced an increase in the personal mileage rate from .555 to .565 beginning January 1, 2013. Employees who travel on state business when a state vehicle is not available or accessible or when use of the employee’s vehicle is considered cost beneficial to the state are entitled to the .565 mileage reimbursement rate. The fleet rate of .246 remains unchanged.
For employees that travel after January 1, 2013, please use the new form available on VW Connect. The new form is titled Travel Reimbursement Form (effective January 1, 2013) and is available by clicking on the Financial and Administrative Services link and then clicking on Travel on the left-hand side of the webpage. The old Travel Reimbursement Form (effective July 1, 2011) will remain on the webpage for the next month so that employees that travel prior to January 1, 2013 can still submit travel vouchers on the old form.
If there are any questions regarding the change, please let me know.
Cheryl C. Miller,
Thank you so much for the wonderful times I have experienced as a part of the VWCC family. After 42 years of teaching, I can truly say that these eight years at Virginia Western have been the best of my career.
I would like to express my appreciation to all of you who attended my retirement party last week and for your kind words, sweet cards and notes, and loving hugs. It was a pleasure chatting with you, and I hope we will be able to stay in touch.
May each of you have a Blessed Christmas, a Happy New Year, and a restful vacation.
The Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) title survey ended on Friday, 12/14/2012 at 5 pm. The title which has been selected for our Advising Teamwork QEP is: "Navigate: Get THERE through Team Advising." Thanks to everyone who completed the survey. If you have questions or concerns related to the QEP, please contact Kristel Clark at firstname.lastname@example.org or 540-857-6218.
Beginning next semester the Virginia Western Volunteer Center will start 'A Semester of Service' to provide students the opportunity to serve their community through group involvement that builds relationships, expands the mind and enriches the spirit .
Each month the volunteer coordinator will coordinate one or two service project events, taking a small group of students to volunteer at the designated organization.
Service projects will typically be held on a weekday afternoon for one or two hours. We will take a school vehicle and leave from campus. Projects will be posted once they are scheduled.
Students who wish to volunteer on a particular day will need to contact Lori Mier, Volunteer Coordinator at email@example.com or 857-6688 to sign up.
January Service Project:
Nursing home residents often look forward to scheduled activities including card games, crafts and musical performances. When volunteers visit, the residents receive extra one-on-one attention which can be rewarding for everyone involved.
Spend time with residents at the South Roanoke Nursing Home playing Uno!
