COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS:

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD SHOEBOXES can be dropped off at Colonial Presbyterian Church the week of November 12-19. Monday 12th – 9am-12pm, Tuesday 13th – 9am-12pm, Wednesday 14th – 5pm-7pm, Thursday 15th – 5pm-7pm, Friday 16th – 9am-12pm, Saturday 17th – 9am-12pm, Sunday 18th – 12pm-3pm, Monday 19th – 9am-12pm.

If you want more information about how to fill a shoebox you can stop by the Church during the above times or visit the Samaritan’s Purse website http://www.samaritanspurse.org/index.php/OCC/index/ . Empty shoeboxes are also available at the Church. Any other questions, email mwilliams@virginiawestern.edu .

VIRGINIA TECH CARILION RESEARCH INSTITUTE MRI RESEARCH STUDY ON DEPRESSION. Contact Cari Rosoff, Clinical Research Assistant, depression@vtc.vt.edu, 540-526-2032. Participants should be ages 18-55 years old, speak English, having problems with feelings of sadness or depression, not taking anti-depressants, not claustrophobic, no metal implants, not have had a head injury. Compensated $15 per hour for interview and questionnaires and $20 or more additional for scanning session depending on the results of the games you play in the scanner.

What’s New in Blackboard 9.1 Service Pack 9

It is finally here – the upgrade for Blackboard to version 9.1 Service Pack 9.  To prepare faculty for the new tools and features, the Distance Learning staff will offer an overview this Friday.

Time: Friday, Nov. 9 from 12 to 1pm
Location: Natural Science Center

You do not need to register for the session – just bring your smiling face and join us for the preview of what you as faculty can expect after the upgrade is completed November 19th.

During the upgrade, Blackboard will be unavailable to faculty and students as has always been the process in previous upgrades.  Be sure you alert students even though alerts have been posted in the Blackboard portal page!!

STAFF SENATE MEETING – NOV. 13TH

The Staff Senate will meet on Tuesday, November 13th at 11 a.m. in the Human Resources Training Room in Fishburn Hall room F002.

We will be discussing a number of regular business agenda items. Ms. Cheryl Miller will speak to the Senate regarding the Staff Senate's recent smoking proposal.
