Hours This Week at the Library

During the semester break, May 7 through May 15, Brown Library will be open 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday.  We will not have Saturday hours on May 12, 2012.

Summer classes begin on Wednesday, May 16, so we will be open on Saturdays again starting May 19, 9am-1pm.

2012 Diploma Campaign Needs You!!

We want you to help us spread the word on CCAP Saturday. Join Ruth Ebrahim at Stop-In on Brambleton Ave., Erik Williams at the Kroger in Rocky Mount, or Angela Falconetti and QBear at Advance Auto Parts on Brambleton Ave. between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 12 and let customers know how they can send a local high school student to college.

CCAP Saturday is our chance to let shoppers know about Virginia Western's Community College Access Program and what they can do to make college possible!

Throughout the month of May, at these local retail stores, customers can donate $1 or $5 and purchase a diploma in support of CCAP. Learn more at www.virginiawestern.edu/ccap.

Public Service Week Wall of Fame Recognition Award Recipients

Visit the ground floor of Fishburn Hall and peruse Virginia Western’s Wall of Fame that includes names of employees and comments that were submitted by their co-workers!  The Wall of Fame will be on display the remainder of Public Service Week.

A drawing of the brick submissions was conducted and those chosen have been awarded a recognition award.  The following are the employees whose names were drawn, the comment on the brick (if completed), and their corresponding recognition gift:

Scheduled Outage: Administrative Virtual Desktops Unavailable May 9 – 11

IET (Information and Educational Technologies) will be upgrading a storage system and other infrastructure, resulting in virtual desktops not being available Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, May 9-11. This upgrade will improve performance and expand capacity. Thank you for your patience as we move forward with this project. We apologize for the late notice. The upgrade was contingent on arrival of key parts.

Fall 2012 Scholarships Application Available Online

The Virginia Western Educational Foundation is pleased to announce a wide array of scholarships available to qualifying students for Fall 2012 semester.  Please inform your students that the scholarship descriptions, instructions and application are available at virginiawestern.edu/foundation/scholarship. 

Deadline for submission is May 18, 2012.
