Apply for Admission / Application Instructions

VWCC Application

Please read the VWCC Application Instructions below to complete the VWCC Online Application.

Persons who have attended Virginia Western within the last three years or applied to Virginia Western within the last year are not required to complete a new Application for Admission.

Application Instructions

Persons applying online must meet all eligibility requirements for admission and complete all application procedures prior to being accepted to the college.

You must use Internet Explorer 5.5 or Netscape 7.1 or later versions of these web browsers to access the online application.

PART 1

Enter the information requested.

Item 1 - Enter your name using upper and lower case letters. If you have applied to or attended any Virginia Community College, you will have an existing SIS ID/Empl ID. You will be required to use the name that is associated with your existing SIS ID/Empl ID. If your name has changed, you will not be able to input your new name. For information on changing your name, please contact the Admissions Office at 540/857-7231.

Item 2 - Providing your social security number is not required but highly recommended. If not given, access to some services will be limited, tax reporting information will not be available, and financial aid will be delayed. Disclosure will ultimately be required for most students at the time of enrollment, per Section 6050S of the Restructuring and Reform Act of 1998, or at the time of disbursement of federal financial aid, per 34 Code of Federal Regulations Part 668.36. The Virginia Community College System (VCCS) will only use your social security number in accordance with federal and state reporting requirements, and for identification and research purposes within the VCCS. It shall not permit further disclosure unless required or authorized by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974, 20 U.S.C. Code 1232G, or pursuant to your obtained consent.

Item 5 - If you have applied, taken classes or been employed at any Virginia Community College, please indicate your SIS ID/Empl ID. Former Virginia Western students with records at more than one Virginia Community College should use the SIS ID/Empl ID associated with Virginia Western. If you do not know your SIS ID/Empl ID, navigate to My VWCC and click "Look up your username and set your password". If you are unable to locate your SIS ID/Empl ID, contact the Admissions Office at 540/857-7231 for assistance.

Item 6 - Select either Credit or Non-Credit/CEU.

Item 7 - Select Virginia Western Community College.

Click "Submit Part 1".

PART 2

Enter the information by providing the desired term of admission, your telephone number and address, and citizenship status. Non-U.S. citizens must provide additional information regarding their alien status. If you selected Non-Credit/CEU in Part 1, you are finished.

Click "Submit Part 2".

PART 3

Enter your secondary education information and select your plan of study.

Item 22 - Select your secondary school or agency. If you graduated from high school, received a GED or will graduate from high school, click on the drop-down list and select the appropriate value. If you are a non-graduate, select the last high school attended.

If you are unable to locate your secondary school or agency, your available choices are:

Click "Submit Part 3".

PART 4

Enter colleges or universities attended if applicable. Use the drop-down list to locate your college or university. Enter your most recent college first and click Add to Table.

If you are unable to locate your college or university, your available choices are:

Item 24 - If you plan to apply for financial aid, select Yes and identify your plan of study.

Item 27 - Be sure to indicate if you are applying for in-state tuition rates.

Click "Submit Part 4".

PART 5

Application for In-state Tuition must be completed to determine eligibility for in-state tuition rates. Select the correct box.

Click "Submit Part 5".

PART 6

Enter the specific information related to your domicile status. Complete each item carefully.

Click "Submit Part 6".

Enter the Security Code and check the certification box.

Click "Submit Application".

Wait for notification that your application was processed successfully. The notification page contains important information regarding your SIS ID/Empl ID, username and temporary password. Outstanding admission requirements or obligations are also indicated. We suggest that you print this page for your records.
