The CT program is designed to prepare selected registry eligible students and registered technologists to qualify as contributing members of the allied health interdisciplinary team which has need for highly skilled CT technologists. Upon completion of the Virginia Western curriculum and successful completion and documentation of all required clinical competencies as set forth by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT); technologists will be eligible to apply to take the National Registry examination leading to advanced certification as a Registered Radiographer in CT by the ARRT.
Applicants for Computed Tomography must have completed an approved program in radiography, radiation oncology or nuclear medicine technology .The student must be registered or registry eligible by the appropriate certification agency. All students must have a current CPR Healthcare Provider certification and must maintain that certification throughout the program. Applicants must have maintained a "C" average in past program courses in the discipline of certification.
The technologist is eligible to apply to take the national registry examination leading to advanced certification in CT by the ARRT. Applicants must complete an application to VWCC in addition to an application for the CT Imaging Program (available here - PDF), provide radiography education school transcript, provide a minimum of 2 letters of reference and have an interview (phone or in person) with the Radiography Program Director or a designated Radiography faculty prior to formal admission. The student in Computed Tomography must abide by all community college policies as well as clinical policies while enrolled in the program.
Students are responsible for Internet access for distance courses, course texts, clinical uniforms if participating in the clinical option, and transportation to and from clinical sites.
